Frequently Asked Questions - Podcasts

Accessing, subscribing to or playing digital recordings of Mann Library events.

1. How do I subscribe to Mann's podcasts?

If you have iTunes installed, the easiest way is to click the appropriate RSS icon  on the Podcast page (select iTunes to open link if needed). Go to our RSS help entry for more info on using RSS.

2. Does Mann Library offer audio-video production services?

Mann Library video tapes all events related to our “Chats in the Stacks” series. Other Mann Library hosted events are recorded by request. The library does not provide audio-video recording and production services for events elsewhere, or for events held at Mann but sponsored by individuals and departments outside of Mann. We do offer the following limited services:

Software is available on our computers, including the Creation Station, for editing and producing video productions.
Workshops are offered occasionally at Mann on audio-video production.

CIT offers a variety of fee-based AV services that may be useful as well. If you are a faculty or staff member, CIT’s Academic Technology Services & User Support Center provides many other support services including training.

3. May I download a Mann podcast file and offer it on my website through a different server?

Mann Library pod and webcasts may be downloaded and served from servers outside of Mann Library only for educational and non-commercial use, only with the permission of Mann Library and the speaker(s) featured in the given video, and only if credit is given to Mann Library for the film production. For permission inquiries or further information, please contact mann-podcast-l@cornell.edu.

4. Is it OK for my website to link to one of the Mann Library podcasts?

Pod and webcasts produced by Mann Library are open to viewing by the general public. Links to the Mann podcast page or to individual podcasts may be placed on any web page. We do not require formal permission for linking, but if you do link to our podcast page from your website, we'd appreciate knowing about it. This information will help us get a better sense of our podcasting service's usefulness to our public. To give us a heads-up that you are linking to our podcast page, please contact mann-podcast-l@cornell.edu.

5. Do I need a video Ipod to watch the video?

No, not at all. The video file for each event is Quicktime, and this should open right on your computer. Of course, it will also work on your video ipod, should you be lucky enough to own one.

6. I don't want to subscribe--I just want to listen to or watch a particular event. Can I do that?

Of course. Find the event you are interested in, and then select either "download the audio file" or "download the video file." The audio file is an mp3,and will play in iTunes and any other audio software supporting that format. The video is Quicktime (mp4), and should play in your browser or on your video ipod. You may need to download the Quicktime player or other compatible player first.

7. What if I have further questions?
