Proxy Cards

Faculty and staff have the option of designating one or more proxy borrowers to their account. The proxy borrower status allows anyone to visit a Cornell Library and check out materials to the account of the sponsoring faculty or staff member using their own (not the sponsors) ID. If the proxy borrower is a Cornell affiliate with their own borrowing privileges, they need to specifiy which account to charge items to. An Interlibrary Loan account can also be used for proxy requests of ILL materials (see our ILL Borrowing FAQ). The sponsor is fully responsible for all items charged on their behalf. They will receive all overdue and recall notices associated with any items checked out to their account via the proxy.

To authorize a Cornell student  or affiliate as a proxy user, the hosting faculty or staff must send an e-mail to mann_circ@cornell.edu or stop by the Circulation Desk (map it) in person with the following information:

  • Faculty/staff sponsor’s name
  • Faculty/Staff sponsor’s ID #
  • Name of proxy user
  • ID# of proxy user
  • Expiration of proxy status (up to 1 year)

To assign a non-Cornell person/affiliate as a proxy, the faculty or staff member must provide the following information:

  • Faculty/staff sponsor’s name
  • Faculty/Staff sponsor’s ID #
  • Name of proxy user
  • Address and phone number of proxy user
  • Expiration of proxy status (up to 1 year)
