Mann Library offers a variety of research consultations services for students, faculty, and staff. These are in-depth, customized, one-on-one meetings to discuss resources and search strategies for assignments, papers, presentations, theses and doctoral dissertations.
Some of the areas where we can provide assistance include:
- literature searches for theses or multi-semester long research projects
- business research and information services including entrepreneurship, developing a business plan
- Statistical or numeric data searches
- Citation management services
- Current awareness

- Metadata services for online projects

Mann Library offers walk-in help at the GIS Help Desk. We can help you get started on a project, find data, or refer you to other GIS experts on campus.
The Research Data Management Service Group (RDMSG) is a collaborative, campus-wide organization that assists with creating and implementing data management plans, applying best practices for managing data, and finding data management services at any stage of the research process.
The Cornell Institute for Social and Economic Research (CISER) has walk-in support at Mann Library. CISER consultants respond to e-mail and telephone (255-1359) inquiries regarding both statistical and qualitative data analysis software. These services are available to all Cornell faculty, staff, and students doing faculty-directed academic research.
CSCU helps faculty, students, and staff with the application of statistical methods in their research. They assist researchers with the method section of grant proposals, the design of their experiments or surveys, the organization of data, the planning and implementation of the statistical analysis, and the interpretation and write-up of results.
Trained graduate and undergraduate tutors are available to discuss specific pieces of writing or questions about writing. Writing tutors can help students get started with writing assignments, including evaluate research materials and developing an outline, as well as develop arguments and consider questions of depth of analysis, organization, thesis statements, and working with appropriate citation conventions.
Graduate writing consultants – experienced writers and teachers of writing from multiple disciplines – are available to discuss specific pieces of writing or questions about writing. Cornell graduate students can request appointments from time to time or on a regular basis when they want one-on-one support to refine and develop strategies for drafting and revising effective scholarly writing.
