Consultation Services

Disciplinary Research Support

Mann Library offers a variety of research consultation services for students, faculty, and staff. These are in-depth, customized, one-on-one meetings to discuss resources and search strategies for assignments, papers, presentations, theses, and doctoral dissertations.

Citation Management

Citation management tools allow a user to organize and retrieve information, such as citations for books, articles, and websites, by interfacing with library databases. The citation manager then works with word processing software to insert properly formatted footnotes or citations into a paper and create a properly formatted bibliography.

GIS

Mann Library provides a variety of GIS support services for Cornell students, staff, and faculty. We can help you find and use data, troubleshoot GIS software (such as QGIS, ArcMap, or ArcGIS Pro), plan a geospatial analysis, or refer you to other GIS experts on campus. We also have information about GIS software availability and licensing, tutorials, workshops, academic courses, GIS listservs, and getting help at the Mann Library GIS Help Desk. Mann Library also hosts CUGIR, the Cornell University Geospatial Information Repository.

Makerspace

Have an idea you want to explore? Curious about 3D printing? Want to design and make buttons for an upcoming event? The library can help! The mannUfactory is an alternative learning environment and gathering space that encourages cross-discipline collaboration, experimentation, and learning.

Research Data Management Service Group (RDMSG)

The Research Data Management Service Group (RDMSG) is a collaborative, campus-wide organization that assists with creating and implementing data management plans, applying best practices for managing data, and finding data management services at any stage of the research process.

Systematic Review Service

Cornell University Library offers a systematic review service to research staff, graduate students, and faculty at Cornell.

CSCU helps faculty, students, and staff with the application of statistical methods in their research. They assist researchers with the method section of grant proposals, the design of their experiments or surveys, the organization of data, the planning and implementation of the statistical analysis, and the interpretation and write-up of results.

Knight Institute Writing Centers

Trained graduate and undergraduate tutors are available to discuss specific pieces of writing or questions about writing. Writing tutors can help students get started with writing assignments, including evaluate research materials and developing an outline, as well as develop arguments and consider questions of depth of analysis, organization, thesis statements, and working with appropriate citation conventions.

Knight Institute Graduate Writing Service

Graduate writing consultants – experienced writers and teachers of writing from multiple disciplines – are available  to discuss specific pieces of writing or questions about writing. Cornell graduate students can request appointments from time to time or on a regular basis when they want one-on-one support to refine and develop strategies for drafting and revising effective scholarly writing.
